Welcome to the RUBI Tier I Program, an assessment-based certificate program. This program is designed to educate practitioners who work with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families on how to implement RUBI through three advanced courses. The program begins with an introduction to autism spectrum disorders and commonly co-occurring behaviors observed in autistic youth, including meltdowns, aggression, or difficulties following instructions. Providers will then learn about the important role parent training can play in effectively supporting autistic youth and their families. The Research Unit on Behavioral Interventions (RUBI) Autism Network developed an 11-session manualized caregiver-mediated program that utilizes techniques grounded in behavior analytic principles to teach families of autistic children ages 3-14 how to successfully navigate their child’s behaviors. RUBI embraces a family-centered approach to care, allowing parents to determine priority behavioral goals and intervention strategies while also creating pathways to navigate common intervention barriers, such as challenges with home practices, caregiver collaboration, and crisis needs. This program includes a content review of the 11 Core and 7 Supplemental RUBI sessions and key principles of the program in order to orient practitioners to the program structure and foundational theoretical model. Through case examples, practitioners will learn about what makes an appropriate RUBI case, ways to design responsive home practice strategies for the family as well as how to respond to common implementation barriers that present in RUBI.
